Machine Patchwork for Beginners
2 1/2 hours for 4 weeks
Machine Patchwork can seem rather daunting to start with, all those patterns, different fabrics and new words!
Our 4-week course will teach you the basics of cutting out, piecing and stitching your patchwork ‘topper’ together and then how to quilt and bind it. We will make quilt just under 1m square, which works well as a lap quilt or for a baby’s cot or floor mat.
You will need to bring 3 x 50cm pieces of good quality cotton fabric. These should be 3 different colours/prints that go together. Light, medium and dark work best, but they don’t have to be at the extreme ends of the spectrum. Later you will need 1m of backing fabric and some wadding, but it’s a good idea to wait, as you may change your mind about what you use, once the quilt top comes together. We have a good stock of all of these fabrics. Please bring your sewing machine or let us know if you need to borrow one of ours (please say if you need one when you book). It is best to use your own machine, so that you learn which settings to use and can do some work at home.
