Exmoor Sock

Another wonderful addition to our carefully curated collection of yarns, Exmoor Sock, from John Arbon Textiles. A small mill situated in North Devon and staffed by people with a deep passion for wool!

Exmoor Sock yarn enhances the durable character and bounce of the fibre from their local Exmoor Blueface sheep – a cross breed of the Exmoor Horn (full bodied and hard-wearing) and the Bluefaced Leicester (renowned for its softness and lustre). They have added naturally dark browny-black Devon Zwartbles giving extra bounce and a subtle fleck of colour, plus Falklands Corriedale to enhance softness and stitch definition and a hint of Nylon for durability.

Exmoor Sock yarn not only celebrates Exmoor, but is designed to be perfect for socks, whilst still having the versatility to suit garments and accessories that relish a hard wearing, machine washable yarn. If you fancy stripes or colourwork, Exmoor Sock comes in handy 50g skeins.

When creating the shades the team at JAT were inspired by the changing seasons of the local Exmoor landscape. This national park is not only where they live, but home to many rare wild flowers, insects and animals, in amongst the grazing Exmoor Blueface sheep.  You can always catch a flash of deep saturated colour when exploring the greens of the hillside and blues of the bay.  So, when selecting the names for the 13 shades, it seemed only fitting to turn to the traditional local dialect of days gone by, such as Oddmedod (snail), Dimity (dusk), Quick Beam (rowan tree berries) and Bibble Bug (woodlouse).

60% Exmoor Blueface, 20% Corriedale, 10% Zwartbles, 10% Nylon - 200m per 50g skein - 2.25-2.5mm needles.
