An Introduction to Sashiko Embroidery

Sashiko is an ancient, traditional form of Japanese embroidery, that is making a comeback.

It is now worked in different coloured threads on all sorts of fabrics and is used as a decorative and practical stitch for mending textiles. It is closely related to ‘boro’ stitching, also used for mending.

We will use templates to make a design on a small pin cushion, then stitch it with embroidery thread. This form of embroidery is easy to master and very soothing to do. All fabric, thread, needles, markers and templates are provided.
